Mary Ward lived in the early 17th Century, a pioneer of education for women.  her legacy has been immense, although she died thinking her work had been abolished by Pope Urban V111 - she was even imprisoned as a heretic for a while by the Inquisition.  Loreto schools are founded on Mary Ward's vision and I gave the centenary speech to the school in Manchester on Sept 8th 2009
